So yep this weekend I hit Roodeplaat again with Marno ( Sealine's new Barbel Slayer) Fishing was somewhat tough as weather condtions were not very condusive to good fishing due to wind.

We saw a few Monster carp up around the 10 KG mark and a couple of bass between the 1 and 2 kg mark sitting tight on Structure. Barbel were fairly abundant but very very skittish and very reluctant to take lures in any form.

Marno improves with his artlure angling almost weekly and I am really impressed with this boy and I believe he is going to make a fine artlure angler - Although the little "dance" he has when hooking into a fish is something to be seen LOL.

We had a great day and even a couple of canary Kurper thrown into boot - another first for marno on Lure.........

Attached is a photie of the barbel slayer with his personal best of 6.5kgs

That so called space rod is a through line rod.

The line enters the rod just above the reel seat and travels all the way up where it exits through the tip. We normally use it in dense vegetation where a rod with eye's would get hung up.

It is often reffered to as a "Klopstok" here in SOuth Africa" because we use the rod tip to primarily disturb the waters surface like an injured animal and barbel are very curious and they come to investigate and they just can't resist a loodkoppie dangling below the disturbance - it is adrenalin fishing as they slam that loodkop with such force it is scary.

You will die when you see the price................in the region of R1400

There are several makes - Sensation make one for about R800 (but I think it is too soft - it is the one in the photies above - if you pick up a steamtrain on that you have got two chances of getting it out.

The best commercially bought one on the market is one made by Blue Marlin and is only available on special order from some select Tackle shops In Pretoria.

The other option is to make your own but this is a tedious task and needs some special "hand made" modifications to be made to a stick.

I hope this helps

The Sealine barbel slayer bought himself a new "Kolpstok" on Friday and had to just try it out.

Anyways we hit the Plaat again and the Slayer put 3 good sized barbel in the boat bettering his personal best today too.

All fish were caught on "leadheads" seems the barbel are shoaling as we came across mass schools of barbel.

Interesting enough we saw schools of Big bass  all in the 2 kg catagory but must say did not try hard for them.

The Hyacith is terrible and Roodeplaat I believe in the next week will be unfishable as it is already 70% full of the exotic weed.

Anyways to the Barbel slayer - thanks buddy for another great day on the water......
