Small Scale Yellowfish, HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys

I have recently moved to Uganda, I am now live and work in Kampala, I have been up to Jinja Twice before (that would be the place where the Nile River flows out of Lake Victoria) In this area of the Nile river there are plenty of super fast, fast, medium and slow moving rapids and then also some areas where the river opens up and slows down completely, there are plenty of yellowfish around as Ive seen then jumping all over the place.

Where would the best place be to try and get these guys on the hook? I have been told by some of the guys fishing up there that the yellows seem to stay right smack in the middle of the rapids (white water), to me this makes almost no sense as I seriously doubt that the yellos would be able to see, feel or catch anything in that angry swirling mess of confusion, I might be wrong though.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

HI Leon,

What tackle do you intend on using? Flygear/Convetional/ Spinning?

I doubt they are small scale yellows but a yellowis a yellow and presented with the right bait they will eat.
Anychance for some photies of the water you intend to fish? This will go a long way in helping us identify what tackle setup etc you might require....

Check out the pic attached, let me know what you think. This will show you one of the places that guys have been catching.

Currently we are using small rappis on spinning tackle, I am getting up some fly gear at the moment from SA as well.

Let me know what you think we should be using, totally different to anything Ive ever done before.

Water Looks great as does that yellow........Bru you are making me green just looking at that yellow.
Try and lay your hands on some inline spinners made by D.A.M in metallic silver (Leave all the other colours alone no matter how tempting they might be).
Fly Gear is a little more difficult - flies that you should consider getting - orange hotspots - mustard caddis - Brassy's - GHRE ost beadhead patterns will work very well too.
Look at the salmo range of Hornets No's 4 -6 and the the salmo minnow range - they are 50% cheaper than rappies......
So when we getting an invite???

You guys are more than welcome anytime you like, and I mean that, we are not the most experianced bunch but we live for fishing, I also have a boat on Lake Victoria so when you guys come up we might be able to get you hooked into a 30kg Nile Perch - who knows.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that Jinja is right on the Equator so we have some pretty hectic rainy seasons, we have had showers pretty much every day for the last 3 weeks, and when I mean showers I mean coming down properly. I will find out from the guys that have been here a bit longer and get back to you.

I used to work and live in Tanzania for 5 years before I moved up here, where does your wife work when she goes there, but it will most definately be cheaper flying out of SA, internal flights in Africa are very costly, averaging about $250 - $350 if you use major airlines, if you make use of chartered flights it will cost you a hell of alot more than that.

Will let you know, looking forward to getting someone up here that actualy knows what he's doing.
