Hi

There is nothing wrong with the knot less knot I would just start the twisting of the knot in the other direction that way the gap of the hook will be away and it wont cut into your line.

While back , I have learned my lesson - just like you. Happen to me same - snapped line right at eye. Eye of hook is badly bent and line gets cut on the edge.

Now I carefully choose hook and use shock leader line to tie hook (1mm diameter) - I choose one that is soft .

Two hooks is better option and one bigger one to be circle hook at the end.
Then I use thin heat shrink ( 1.6mm)  where line goes through hook eye as a preventive measure.

Also I use bearing swivels as they do the job on high tensioned line while ordinary are jammed during pulling force.
 

When it comes to sinker - some systems have problems when trying to cast further as bait flies far further while sinker drops close by as it is on slide swivel on main line.

Thanks for the responses. I will defo investigate all the above mentioned. I must admit that I have tied the knotless knot by starting the twist from the other angle and it does look better but I must admit that I want to find a better solution as I am a bit paranoid and will not handle a nother defeat by a big cat.. I absolutely love these hooks and will have to come up with a solution. I am a little busy at work and have not yet had time to experiment...

Should have also stated that I do drop my big barbel baits via an inflatable.

Well guys, did the trip but the fishing could have been better as the weather was foul. Got there at Friday and got the rods in at around 15h00 and could not land a single fish - That meant no bait! Rained on/off on Saturday and a heck off a lot on Sunday...
My mate landed a 4.8kg carp so off went the head and in it went. 15min later it took off and I set the hook. Unfortunately it swam through 4 papswaai lines and broke me off 1m from the side...didn't even see it but it felt good!
Rigged some carp fillets and managed a nice specimen early Saturday evening, but unfortunately still not that elusive monster I am after.

Other fish caught for the weekend on papswaai:
- 4.8kg Karp
- 3.6kg Smallmouth Yellow

Day old I can honestly say that I am not a fan off. I tried them at this venue before and nada, zip! Look, they will catch cats no doubt about it, but I am specifically after n monster and therefore only concentrating on large carp baits.
I am luckily at the river again for 4 nights in December so I will do my best to make a plan with carp baits before getting there. This section of the river we struggle to get carp. We only managed 2 carp for the 2.5 days...a 4.8kg and a 3.5kg.

So in order to land that big one before yearend I returned back to the vaalriver between December 24 and 28. We were met with sweltering heat and water temperature of 26 degrees. We struggled and the fishing was very poor. On our last night we managed to get a couple of pulls on carp head. I missed one and gave the rod to my father for the next and he landed this beaut! Not the biggest but certainly his PB. He is now properly hooked on the cats!
We have managed a couple of smaller cats in the 5/6kg range on smaller fillets.
