Hey guys,

Anyone know of a great place to dive Cray's in Gansbaai/De Kelders area? Obviously outside of the MPA's. I heard that the harbour wall is a good place to start. Any help would be awesome

Diving for rocklobster has not been as good there as in the past.
It's not a bad idea to drive a bit towards Cape Town for better spots. Pringle Bay, Betty's if flat calm, Rooi-Els and even Kleinmond.

Either take the first or 2nd turnoff for DeKelders coming from or going to Gansbaai and go straight towards the sea. Park as close as possible, take one of many footpaths down and start the search. I stopped diving about 5 years ago but until then this is what we did and we always got nice sizers and quota.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the info! I am know all about the crays in Betties to Rooi Els. I am particularly interested in the Gansbaai to De Kelders area. We travel to Pearly beach to visit the folks quite frequently but no diving is permitted there. So a couple of dives around the Gansbaai / De Kelders area will definately be in order. I'll let you know how I get on in a couple of weeks...

From what I can tell, I will definately have to look at using bait bags to lure them out of those very deep holes.

You might try Danger Point as well.

It is on the Kleinbaai side of Gansbaai but seeing that you come from Pearly Beach it won't make much of a difference.

 

As you drive towards the light tower you will see a small bay with a couple of houses next to the sea. I personally don't dive but you normally see the guys there.

It is now illegal to dive there.  You cannot dive from the Ratel river (east of Die Dam) back to the Gansbaai harbour wall.  All because they can't police the perlie poachers we lose some brilliant diving areas :(

So that would mean that the guys you saw were poachers then... Thanks for the input.
