Sinker trace with shock leader

Hi i am new to coast fishing. I have fished a couple of times on the coast but i use a 3 oz weight with my 25 lb mono and it works well. The only problem is that the current keeps pushing my sinker away so i want to go to a 5 oz.

So i think i should use a shockleader of about 60lb and what size sinker trace should i use, because if i use 30lb mono with a 5oz then it just goes flying.

Are you using a grinder or multiplier? I'd use a heavier mainline on the rock and surf fishing..I like to fish with multiplier and 0.50 mono as mainline and I'll use a leader, 0.7 to 0.8mm in among the rocks, or livebaiting/sliding on the beach, just in case I hook a proper fish. I use like 0.45 or .40 as my sinker line so if I am stuck I can just bust that off, retie a sinker and carry on. This is what works for me..? I have no clue how many lb's/kg's the various monos that I use, I just use the diameters as reference..0.35 for bass leader, 0.35-0.40 for light tackle multiplier spinning, 0.45 as sinker line for leader or grunters or others in the lagoons, 0.50 as mainline for rock and surf ,0.55 for heavier rock and surf mainline or sliding livebaits and also for heavy spinning, 0.60-0.65 for mase @#$% fish-spinning, 0.65 for light tackle standup tuna and 0.80 for the 50w's proper tuna reels..what lb's the are???LOL no idea I just know how hard you can pull on each before they break, 0.55 and above I can pull as hard as I can with the bend of a rod and good knots and it should not break, i'm not that strong hahaha

The sinker weight/type must suit the conditions, the bait and the rig/line...I fish light tackle sometimes and then the rod can only cast a 3oz, and I'll be on the light 10size multiplier with 0.40 or grinder with 30-50lb braid on and a 0.60-0.7mm mono leader FG'd on the end, but if I cant make the sinker sit on the sand then I use a small 2oz or 3oz wire grapnel on that rig, or a weedeater cord grapnel in the rocks..or sometimes in among the rocks for gallies you want your sinker to wash around a little to find the fish, and then the fish pull you free, so a bottle sinker is used, or piece of chainlink, or sparkplug or for the same reason a pyramid on the sand so it can shift around..Hope that helps..

So i use a a grinder with 0.50( 25lb) mono with 0.70 as a shock leader.
I will try and use a grapnel 3oz with 0.45. If i want more distance and les movement with rougher waters and i need to ise a 5 oz for distance. What should i make the sinker trace.
Because i put a lot of power in my cast so the sinker goes flying with .5 so should use the .70 but put a granny knot close to the sinker or will twine be beter at the end of the .50 sinker trace?

I was reading a lot so i saw everyone normaly use that strength line but i pit to much power in my cast so it snaps or it could be my technique but i there way i am not sure if i should use les strength or increase the line strength and thx for the reply

It could be your cast, too much snatch in the initial cast? I still put a granny knot in the 0.45 or sinker trace..When you cast, smoothly load the rod and let the rod do the work for you. Casting a multiplier did wonders for my casting technique, actually having to learn for the first time in 30yrs fishing the correct technique to cast, aside from a fly rod. Grinders make one lazy on the finer aspects of your casting LOL..with a grinder its just gooi..But with the right technique your distance and accuracy improves. Ja, 0.50 mainline, 0.7 leader and a 0.50 or 0.45 sinker snood with granny knot and you shouldn't have any issues rock and surf except the mono loosing you distance with the grinder as opposed to braid. Try work on the technique...Where does it snap off also, assuming it is the line and not knots, and also 25lb for 0.50 maybe not that strong? What line are you using?

Good monos are not that expensive, Double X lines are wonderful but little pricey, but sufix synergy is my go to all round mono line as its cheap and performs well/strong and is reliable. For leader I like the Perline "original monofilament" spools for my leader.

I did make an error with what line i use. It was actually 25 lb but 0.4 so i probly need to go stronger.
The line normally breaks like a 15 to 20 cm away from the sinker knot.
But will try working on technique but i think my mainline might be a bit to ligth to use .50 line as a sinker trace so i might just swap out to bigger lines

Thx for the advice
