It is definately NOT a potato bass. Definately Malabar.
I was the underwater officer for southern KZN and I know my fish.
I also think, LION, to get your facts straight before taking cheap shots at people on forums. This is not place to be taking shots at people, especially if you are not sure about the facts and the fact is he posted a pic of the fish, so you could have looked in any sea fish book.
I will definately also say that the fish is about 3-4kg.

dave we catch on 4kg braid on light river rods garrick is a gentelmans fish it fights fair so we fight fair,please look at your equipment you use 400 pound steel and another km of 50 pound that sounds like you going for gw... me and jamie are true sport fishermen that loves the fight that garrick gives...

Catch and release all the way. the only thing i would shoot is a kolstert haha. for bait. or a big one for the pan. have too much respect for some of the others. took me too long to catch them and it just doesnt seem right putting a bolt through them. but...then again... to each his own! Awesome rockcod by the way! well done!
