New shore game spinning rod prototype on the bench.
For now starting with overall length of 11'6", but might cut this back to 11' depending on the casting performance and swing-weight / feel
Rating 3/4 - 3oz.
Test reel will be a Sustain 6000FB with 25b (actual) BS Fireline. Might try a softer braid, but if it throws Firelline well it will throw soft braid better....
The FB is an old reel but it is tall, taller than the Saragossa SW / Spheros SW 5000/6000 that I really feel are being ignored as exceptionally good spinning reels for shore game purposes.
Yes, heavier, but the height and spool diameter are pretty big plusses in my book (distance gains....)
Will see how this develops but for now at least the blank feels very good:
Softish tip with exceptionally fast tip recovery, bends nicely into the mid-section but with phenomenal backbone.
Test casting tomorrow with a KR Concept layout:
25H 12H 8M 7L to 7x KT7's with a MN8 tip-top

Layout will handle 6m mono leaders of 0.50mm mono or if you are clever a 7m tapered mono leader of 0.40mm down to 0.60mm.

11'6" feels unwieldy - too long for me, more like a short surf rod than a genuine spinning stick.
Shortened to 11', moved reel seat and re did guide layout last night.
Test again this afternoon.

Whats the weight of the setup after the alterations? What blanks are you using, as I'm in the market for a light shore game setup that is 11 foot.. What casting distance you getting with spoons?

I will weigh the blank and do proper measured distances later today.
I guestimate built rod weight at around 350g, but need to confirm this.

Built rod just less than 350g.
Tested with 45g needle nose and whilst still getting used to the blank and finding its sweet spot in terms of drop and technique; managing a comfortable 115-120m, with not much effort.

Local park has some obstacles in the way so giving it a really hard throw runs the risk of planting the plug in one of two trees at 100m and 115m from my casting spot. Managed to overshoot both, nearly lost another plug to the pair of trees... Right now there are at least 3 needle nose plugs and a Maxrap at about 10m above my head if I stand under the taller of the two. Doh.

Very happy.
Rod loads easily.
Throws far.
Nice backbone.


Now to try a LC20 as a stripper and perhaps some softer braid with a braid leader and really climb under a cast with a 45g couta casting spoon.

Ah very interesting, please revert once you tried the couta casting spoon, with- and with out- some effort....
The weight seems fine and lightish,
What is the length of the but to the bottom of the real seat?
Pm me some price details on the rod.
