Sedgefield fishing spots

Hi all

Rookie here.

I'll be in Sedgefield from 27th of Dec - 6 Jan. Is it possible to catch in the river there? Not sure if the mouth is open at the moment?

How is fishing on the beach or perhaps close to Gericke's point?

Lastly, my neice broke my cheap fishing rod. What is a good entry level fishing rod and reel to use for catching fish up to +-5kg?

Sorry for the vague question. I don't fish often, but I love the calmness and adrenaline it brings!

Merry Xmas!

Hi...I live in Sedgefield. The mouth is open (has been for about three months) and there is good fishing up and down the lagoon, just look for the deeper channels. Gericke's is good for scratching, but you might want to try Platbankies as well, especially on the low tide when you can wade out to some of the deeper rocky points. There are some nice holes on the Myoli/Cola beach section, but your best bet is to go there at low water to see where they are, then fish there on the incoming tide, as the banks and holes are constantly moving.

Any relatively inexpensive brand of rod, about a 10ft model, with a decent grinder, will give you the chance to get some fish. Mud prawns are your best bait in the lagoon, while chokka and sards will do in the ocean.

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas to you and yours too!!
