scratches on fishfinder transducer

I recently purchased a furuno fcv-620. The package was shipped to me and it contained the wrong transducer (without speed and temp). The company who sent it arranged that I can return the transducer to the agents nearby and receive the one I paid for. They swopped the transducer for the one with speed and temp. Upon opening the package I discovered that the transducer didn't look like the other one (apart from the fact that it is a different unit!!!) The one I originally received was spotless and looked like a mirror on the bottom side. This one had very fine scratches and marks on the bottom side.

I am not full of $#% at all with such things but when it comes to sensitive equipment like a fishfinder it bothers me. I phoned the guy at the agents and he swears its brand new. Can these just be scratches and marks from manufacturing? Or do they actually test each unit?

I am concerned that this transducer will not be working 100% and I will take 5-10 fishing trips to discover it (if I ever do discover it).

How can I test this unit? I tried testing it in a swimming pool but that didn't really deliver. I can read the bottom though! (1.6m)

These scratches look worse on the photos than what they actually are. Its either that you can't see them or they look like this!

Personally I don't think it will effect the performance of the transducer. With bass bishing the transducers get mounted on the bottom of the electric motor and gets scrathced and bumped but still works. I would be very upset if I had been sold something secondhand or a demo etc. If it has been used before you should see marks or scratches around the mounting point.

I did search the whole unit for obvious signs of previous use (saddle marks on cable, ect). I don't believe this unit was mounted on a vessle but I felt uneasy about the marks. If I did not see the other transducer I would not even have taken notice of these scratches.

Well I am taking the guy's word that its brand spanking new and I will mount it ASAP
