nice!!! was that at Rio Longa?
I so badly wanted one of those but the debris in the water at kwanza made bait fishing very difficult most of the time

yip aqua ,that was at rio , we had the same problem with debris when we were there those rivers dont play , there were whole islands coming down that river and once it goes out the mouth the waves broke them up and caused havoc down the beach .we went for the threadfins.tarpon, snapper etc but with all the rubbish we battled .on our first day before the debris really started  our 1st minute on the beach we were treated to a kingfish smash of note they were everywhere smashing everything we really thought this is the place wow ,also got the corvina (looks like our salmon) in amongst the kingies on a slow retrieve.

unfortunately after that we really battled ,the one day though out of no where with a dead flat sea these fins rose out of nowhere as far left and right ,if we waded behind us around us was just tarpon 100s and 100s of them we went ballistic throwing everything we had at them they would not touch a thing it was the most fustrating thing ever experienced and they hung around for like 2 hours ,my mate got 1 run on a slide with a sardine like fish as bait ,nearly lost his rod as it ripped it out the pipe at a huge speed ,but we were not sure if it had eaten the bait or just got tangled in the line ,we saw it jump once about 30kg fish and itwas gone .

other than that there are resident tarpon in the river there at certain spots you can go day after day and they there ,but while we were there they wouldnt eat anything ,they are smaller ones in the river 3-10kg   .there were other guys there that fished for them everyday for 10 days and didnt land 1 think they only hooked 3 .

on the namibia side of the river mouth there is a local fishing village and these guys stop at backline and clean there fish everyday before they come in on there boats ,this is where we would get all the ineds, you could go there all day long and pull flattie after flattie until you were buggered ,we pulled what looked like our natal brown skates  but the biggest i have seen not one under 30kg shot for shot and these sandies there also .

its was a really stunning place and the pics there of the fish caught were amazing just was not our turn with the eds ,just a really long way for a whole lot of flatties .

wow youre lucky I only hooked 1 kingie at kwanza and it broke me on light tackle lol

we got 1 strike from a 30kg tarpon on a small dropshot.. it ate the dropshot as it hit the water the guy didnt even have time to close the reels bail arm! one jump and off..

if it jumped and the reel was screaming then it ate the bait

here's Trix with a beaut little tarpon at Rio Longa... they've figured them out from what i hear, live tilapia on a circle hook does the trick

quite right ,about live tilapia but with the river coming down those guys fishing for them  couldnt get any , the guides would take us to the spots where they were on the boats ,cut the engines and then drift. within a minute or two you would have those size tarpon all around the boat that dark water would have silver flashes all over it they seemed to be quite nosy fish but just wouldnt take any artificles when we were there .only thing about rio i didnt like were the crocs eish they were all over a local girl got taken the day we arrived and one of their cows was taken in the week we were there as well ,they had surf skis at the lodge which you could take to go fish off if you wanted but after i watched the turtle watches using them to cross over every night to the beach and about 3 crocs swimming behind them all the time i decided it was not a good idea .
