Whaler
Sealiner
This is for the guys who are interested in doing a full respray and upgrade!
With these 5 tools you can rebuild almost any reel
First remove the side plate screws and remove the spool
Make sure you have a Tupperware bowl of some sorts to put stripped parts in other wise you are going to loose some stuff
Next up, remove the screw that secures the nut
Unscrew the nut and remove the handle, now remove the screws and the cover will come off, Stripping the rest of the parts is quite simple and they basically come apart, if you are unfamiliar with the reel you can use string to tie the parts together to keep them in the right order, make sure that you remove everything as the sandblasting takes everything of!
Use masking tape to cover the ares you don’t want to paint, I would suggest you wash the casings with some benzene to get all the sand out before you paint
On previous reels I used the aerosol spray, on this one i went to my good friend Goldsharks House as he has a nifty spray gun and some good quality duco paint, this paint is a lot better then the can and I suggest if you don’t have a spray gun ask some one who does! You only need about 30ml of paint to give the reel a good few cotes
Check out the consentration on Goldsharks face!lol
Poetry!!!!!!! It looks like new.
Now for the re assemble first refit the AR bearing and the freespool clutch, you can also replace the plastic bush in the casing with a bearing.
Fit the mainshaft and the bearing, I prefer to lube the bearing with reel x as it leaves a protective coating on the bearing,
Next fit the dog and lock gear, make sure everything is clean!
Remove the new dragwashers and the smallest one goes on top of the lock gear, cover with a light coating of calls,
Now grease the rest of them and keep them free of dust.
Fit the maingear on top of the first washer and also the pinion gear, I use a light drip of reel x on the two gears as I don’t believe in drowning a reel in grease, it does more harm then good!
Now sort out the sequence of the washers and drive plates as this is critical for having a smooth drag,
The first washer in the stack should be a round one and the second one must be keyed, make sure that the keyed washer fases down toward the bottom of the stack.
Once you have completed the drag fit the springs and the AR bearing inner and you are ready to close her up!
Make sure you have the concave washers facing away from each other as this is the biggest mistake the guys make when assembling a reel
Next fit the bearing in the casing and the small washer just below the clicker mechanism,
The rest is quite easy fit the star drag and secure the handle in place with the nut and lock screw
This complete rebuild should not cost more then about R350 bucks! Beats the hell out of buying a new reel
