Here they are:
The Marine Safety Act requires a paddle ski to be equipped with a minimum of:
1. An approved buoyancy aide: one per person
2. 750ml drinking water- for vessels going to sea only
3. Unexpired approved projectile flare set – a minimum of 6 required
4. Suitable tow line- of at least 10m
5. Bailing device- for vessels that do not self drain
These are the must have there are many more a
"add-ons" that are just as important.

If you look at table on Page 53 it's pretty clear that we require a set of 6 un-expired pencil flares,. The only exception would be sailing boats on sheltered waters Category R. We are category D (and could be E if you have agreed with SAMSA -as in KZN- UKFC members apparently) which means less than 5 Nautical miles offshore and for non-power driven vessels of less than 7m.
