Hi All,

:clap12Great Catches there man, congrats to all of you's.  It's nice to have this kind of outcome when you've been looking forward to it for such a long time.  I see that some of the pics where taken at night, is that when they were caught and around what time did they come out?

The sizes are also very nice, must have given you guys some serious "reel-runs", were they released?

Thanks LGF,

Yeah was leka, they were take between 3:00 and 5:00 am those in the day was either eirly morning or late afternoon.
10:00 to 15:00 was dead and we took the oppotunity to catsh u[p on some sleep.

The dam has extremely strict rules with regards to fishing i'll post them (in short - it is a true specimen dam and fish must be released)

Jaques

Yes I always thought that well, in most of the dams where I did my  "papgooi-ing" that the carps stop feeding at about 10 in the morning and restart their feeding around 14 in the afternoon, well, that has always been my experience, night fishing was almost similar with the exception that they didn't stop at 10pm they just slowed down until around the hour before sunrise, thenit was ON again until 10 am.

Anyhow, just wanted to know how you are applying the rule of catch and release in terms of the alien species, but don't have a problem with the catch and release regulations at dams.  Anyhow those are great fish and should live to fight another day!!!

Hehe LGF,

Having a view of what you stand for and on the flip side having to follow rules on the other side is just how this goes. ;) So rules came first here.

Jaques, I've tried typing this post several times but each time it came accross to be defamatory and so forth, so please read this with an open mind?  It's not meant to start an ugly argument nor is it meant to be personal, but;

If you truely stood for what you believe in then, you should have condoned the venue and not have gone there, even if it meant that you would you have to sacrifice the experience and the honour of catching big fish like that.

If not condoning the venue, then you should have condoned the rules and killed the carp caught, they are threatening the prosperity of the yellows, as is understood from previous posts, no matter what body of fresh water we talking about, connected not isolated.

But you chose to go, you caught alien species that threaten the yellows of which ensuring the latter's future and prosperity is what you stand for....... I don't agree.

Remember the PM you sent me?  Well, the facts on the table, inclusive of all the views and points of opinion and so forth, leads me to one conclusion,

You just hate Bass!!! Nothing more to it, and would kill a Bass, just because it's a Bass.

This is truely Sad, really, if only you could go about the protection of the yellows in the best possible and responsible way, cause hating Bass ,and trying to erradicate them, will instead of getting the Bass angler behind your drive, drive the bass angler to make things worse.  Again, I'm not that irresponsible, but the next guy might just be for the both of us.  Think about it, you killed his fish off because it's an alien but on the flipside you let another (even bigger threat) alien and a couple of big ones go free.  "Pissed off", he goes out every possible opportunity that he can, catches yellows, kill thems just because he's mad at you, poisons a water system, or relocates bass, carp and other aliens to protected waters.

Look closely and perhaps you'll see the unstable WWII H-bomb your are knocking with a little hammer?

Please, don't see this as a personal attack but rather an alarm indicating that your actions could have the opposite effect/s of what you are trying to achieve....

I've got many ideas, about how you could responsibly and better yet have the assistance of Bass anglers, in promoting the Yellows Program, so let me know which way you'd wanna go?

Ai ! no offence taken LGF. Everyone has there place. Yes and as in the previous thread agred that there is more of an issue that "alien" species - and that being envorinmental polution. This also cam out in the report (YFWG). So yeah fly agreed. In the mean time I have gone out doing some fishing for Bass (Witbank).. and wait for it ... releasing them.

Lastly - Rushmere only have 3 species in it: Catfish, Bass and Carp. I caught a nice Bass there on fly (1.4kg) and again release.

So me changing from "fillet and freeze" to "catch and release" on aliens is done as the issue at hand is more polution. So yeah, maybe we could go do some bass fishing someday (you teaching me the ropes)

Jaques

You're on for me taking you out some time to go bassing, but showing you the ropes, I'm NO Pro, I just get lucky, sometimes more than the others but nonetheless I'll be more than willing to share my Luck(knowledge) on bassing.

BTW, do you know if there's yellows in the Hennops, section behind the Higlands Hydro-spa, been trying there with fly but never had any success?

Thanks LGF

Nope, not there - mind you tried on a different stretch but nada. Even tried Jukskei - saw some but could not get into them. Waiting for the first rain to come and spawning to be complete before I go flyfishing for LM and SM on the Vaal again.

Jaques

I thought as much, however the person staying next to that stretch of water insists that there are yelows there, but like i said I've tried several times and not even managed to pick up a crab pinch... I've yet to fish the vaal.

Heard alot about the Jukskei in the past, bud of mine did the filming and editing for Angling Africa Aventures with "The Fly Guy" Arie Birt as presenter on Supersport some time back (also did some 52 programs on angling for ESPN) anyhow he told me about the waters and said that it's very rewarding fishing there, one day.....

Do you perhaps have names and/or pics/illustrations of the must have flies for yellows? please post if you do, I do have some 10 or 13 flies for yellows (well I think they're for yellows).
