Hope this qualifies as art lure - Went out to Roodeplaat yesterday to try and get a few of the barbel that sun themselves in the shallows. We launched at 11h and drove across to the first bay on the sable hills side.. Drifted in and after 20m spotted my first target. Lure in, on his head and BANG on dad! Great fight for a little 2,5kg fish. And that was it for the day wind came up making it hard to see them and they were very spooky often blasting off the bottom in a cloud of mud before I had even spotted them. Main learning - don't bury the hook into the plastic. had a monster chomp my fluke but didn't hook up... but got my heart beat up to an almost unhealthy level.
Saw shoals and shoals of nice 1-2kg bass, 20 to 30 fish all huddled up in specific area's. I tried plastics even bumping it off them but no interest was show at all. Tried small spinners and a salmo hornet.. nothing, nada, niks..
All in all not a waste of time, ,the one fish will tide me over until spring and got a great pic of African Spoon Bills.
