Rods explained

Hi to all, I have been on the forum for a year or so but not been very active. I would like to thank everyone as I have learned a lot but still has a lot to learn. hence the post.

I see people talking about rods in numbers but I don't know what they mean. From what I gather first figure is the length but what does the other one mean.

I have a couple of old rods that I got from my dad and love them to bits but would like to know how I can work out what sort of weight I can cast with them.

They are conversa Shad 3 and a conversa Galjoen.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Howsit HD the numbers usually found on rods indicate the length of the rod, then the recommended line class, and usually the weight or lure that its rated to throw. Some also state the action of the tip - medium, fast, heavy etc.

Hope this helps.
