Hey there, All

Has anybody got any experience or opinion regarding Rob Allen’s open muzzle and their reels?  I have always used their guns in the past and have been very happy with them, I am now thinking of updating my gear.  Where’s the best source of Rob Allen gear in Cape Town?

Thanks

Hi

If you look at previous posts you will see that most people recommend Rabitech in Kuils River.

If he does not stock it or can't get it then it is not worth having!

Hi Galjoen12,

I have Rob Allen guns and have fitted the stainless reels, there is no reel anywhere near as good on the market in my opinion, does set you back around R600 bucks though.

I rate the rob allan reels better tha the rabitech ones because they sit horizontally and you can just get clips for your other guns and just need to get one reel that you can interchange between your guns- turning all your guns into reel guns! I've done it and it works great!
also try Spierre.. the guy who makes the fins out in Bolouberg. 021 553 2979.
haven't used his guns tho but lots of people swear by them. I did use one once and found the rubber very supple compared to the rubber i had fitted from rabitech.... not sure which is better...

Agree with Eckart,Louis at Rabitech's products and service is second to none, but I wouldn't use one of his reels.

For a cheap and pretty effective option you can use a Freedivers reel, not for big gamefish, but a very affordable option to convert to a reelgun.

Open muzles help with "aiming" at the fish as you can sight down the entire length of the spear. It does take a little more time to re-load though which can be a pain when you have a shoal of tail swimming around you :fswim

Freedivers reels are available at Christy sports in Tokia, infact they carry a good stock of the Freedivers equipment. well worth a look. once you get your reel you can get relatively cheap dynema/rope at Rope World in Tokia too (it's on main rd).
I found the Rob allan reel better because it's interchangable but you need to look at what you want to do and what best suits your pocket.
Good luck and see you in the water

Guys look out for RA's newer low profile muzzle. Its sleak like the open muzzle except its closed and is easier to use. I have changed all my guns bar one to the low profile muzzle.
