We arrived in Richards Bay around 11am after leaving JHB around 4.30 am. As soon as we got there we checked in and headed str8 for the harbour to go do some dropshot. Now the weather was not the best, cloudy and a bit windy, but that has never put me off some fishing. So we flicked all afternoon without as much as an enquiry using 3" -4" minnows in all flavours. So then i decided enough of this crap let me change to the old faithfull CAMMO worm as i have always had success with this. Now this was around 18h30 so it was basically the last chance saloon to at least hook something before heading back to the hotel without blanking for that day and denting our confidence for the rest of the stay. And true to the cammo worm reliablity i was soon into a fish, now i dont know what it was but it was black in colour and had a mouth like a bass, not 2 seconds later my mate was also on also using cammo worm and same type of fish. So having caught at least 2 fish we decided it was time to head back as it was getting dark and we didnt want to encounter any dodgy characters wanting to relieve us of our fishing gear or money LOL.
Anyways next day back to the harbour to try to hook those Kingies or pick handles that we saw swimming around. but htey had other ideas and wouldn't even look twice at our plastics. so we ended up at one of the t-shaped piers where my mate at least caught a rock cod but it was no kidding about 10cm big
. so another day of hard work with no action, but it's still better than a day spent at work.
So it was decided to rather go up to Cape Vidal and fish the ledges as they seldom dissapoint. We weren't there more than 2 hours and on DAD. we caught alot of black tails and i caught one wave garrick and another fish i hope you guys can identify ( picture below). So that was the morning session over and we decided to try fish Mission Rocks in the afternoon session. Now this never happened as the Easterly came up at a howling speed making it impossible to fish.
So now the last day we would of fished in the morning and then headed back but the wind had changed direction and was pumping so we had to give it a miss and just head on back to miff JHB.
We still had alot of fun even though the fishing wasn't great, but the locals where also saying that the last couple of months the fishing has been on the poor side.
Now all we can do is slave away to pay for that next fishing trip which i hope will be some place more productive like Kilwa Ruins

P.S the fish was bright blue when it first came out of the water.
