Richards Bay Harbour

Hi All,

A mate and me will be heading down to Richards Bay on Thursday to go do some drop shot fishing and lure fishing.

Now i wnated to know from anybody that has fished the harbour where the most productive ares are. I would like to target Kingies and big ones if possible but also not hasseld about hooking anything else in the process as dropshoting goes.

The other question i have what lures work the best and has anyone had success on x-rap walks (rapala to skim across the water). Was thinking of using these in the early morning just as the sun hits the water or late afternoon.

And lastly anybody out there own a boat that wouldnt mind taking us out, of course we would be paying for the petrol, to try hook some Garrick or Kingies on the back line?

If not any good charters some of u guys could recommend?

pelican island, the last pier at the end....i hear there are kingfish that come out there.....but i have never caught one there....and then the water around the island also holds alot of flat head and gunter....

as far as lures go..sorry...i do most of my drop shot from the boat....

Thats where my mate caught a kingie last time he was there. shot for the advice always appreciated.

i see you from richards bay so maybe we'll bump you down there if you hit the water between thursday- monday.


when you say last pier on the end do you mean the one that the channel goes to the marina? looked now on google earth to try see some deap channels.

I was planning on doing a bit of drop shot this weekend...
il wear my sealine cap and il see you guys there...

sandworm is probably your best bet....and then small minnows, like 2-3 inch ones, and light jig heads...

steel bridge? like where the mariner ends and runs down the river?

grunter grunter grunter....i hear...once again i dont really know for sure....

iv seen huge amounts of baitfish being chowed by something there before....

the baitfish form a little prey highway on each side of the channel...when the tide goes out you can see them schooling along the rocky banks as they go back up the mouth....im sure if one matched the hatch one would catch something lurking there

sorry....when i was talking about the last pier thats the pier i was talking about....

there are two piers on Pelican...the one at the end is the one on the right which is the one i was talking about where all the kingies supposedly come out.....

but i also know for a fact that kingies come out at the pier you thought i was talking about in the beginning.....
