A group of us (friends & wives for a change :fbash) got together to celebrate my son's 18th & my friend/colleague's 41st b.day on Sunday. (The wives very seldom join us on fishing trips, even though this was a two-in-one trip hhbbdd::ifishin!!)

We decided on a day out at RICHARDS BAY South Pier where we will have a fun day , wife's soaking up the son :merm, the boys doing drop-shot & catching livies for the manne , & the manne sending out some ground bait for early kob. No steel traces.

My friend Ray thought it well to test the Aqua Cat in the harbor & at first I though it a crazy idea :fbash, though later found it to be fun fishing long-line in a harbor just for the fun & see whats up.

With some small stumpies on the end, & rods waiting patiently , I started walking around to visit the piers to see how the other friends were doing with drop-shot. Ray & some others were watching our rods.

I must have been away for a good 20 min's when I noticed Pat came looking for me , saying " You better come quick,  & land your own fish or loose it to Ray" ::S  Now imagine Pat . +- 56 years , short , with a stiff neck due to an old injury, cannot walk to fast & semi blind in the one eye , trying his best to get hold of me amongst the trees, dolosse on the pier, limping walking , a bit of a fast step in between .......... & very excited .... I had a good laugh afterwards & Pat a good sense of humor.........we can always joke with one another understanding one another.::S

When I reached my rod , the fun was over........Ray looking very sad & lost, as if he had just lost his biggest race ever.....::cavmn:swear Line was slack & he said it was off...........:( ag nee man..............! Apparently Ray's dash to the rod +- 50m away was a sight for a gr8 laughs - he lost his plakkies in the dash , gave huge steps like the "Mr Interflora man" add , & still tried to place his beer in the sand in a gentle manner without falling over , though still in the process of running.........the other manne had a gr8  show. Thks bud for saving the day ? rod ? your beer ::S

Reel in the slack line , .........whole trace gone............line has been chaffed for +- 4meters.  Conclusion - nice size Mr Jaws:ssswim: Apparently the reel-run was a sight to see & hear according to the manne, & said they have not seen such a run before .....makes me wonder what monster was at the end busy chomping my bait.

Not to long afterwards , Ray's Torium 30 runs very slow, but steady out towards the open sea............:ifishin , gave it a few more yards , strike & vas, solid , huge tussle for +- 10 min's........slack line :Xstpime2   Big flattie or Kob ...? Will have to wait & see with the next visit I suppose.

A few more long lines , another short run , no luck, the other rod a 2m eel. A bit frustrating but lovely experimenting in the harbor. We dropped at distances varying from 200 - 450.............very long line !!

In short the birthday boys had a gr8 day , enjoyed their friend's company, braai b_r_a_a_i& fishing , the wives  loved the outing & lets hope they now realize (  ::S) how much fun the boys have on their fishing outings & are not boozing & jollying every time they pack tackle into the bakkies .....::S, & the manne already started talking about the next venue & mustered  up some new ideas to be tested. This is what angling is all about , not always catching , not always the biggest, but also loosing some & keep you wondering what it could have been , how big etc.:::S
