From experience I know that there is nothing more irritating than being on the water and suddenly the trim / till on the motor(s)does not work. This is 99% of the times due to solenoid failure. So when I recently bought a boat with a 100hp, Mercury engine, I decided that the trim solenoids will be the first on the agenda to replace.
The Mercury dealers quoted a price of R900 each!!!!:swear, it is afterall only a basic electric switch. Due to this eye watering quote a memory string was released in my brain - in my youthfull boat racing days, we replaced all solenoids with Cole Hersee ones. The size and fixing plate fits into most engines, and I still have to find one that failed.
For those that are interested, the correct part is Cole Hersee, 24059, available at Midas (on order if not in stock) @ R +-300 each.
