Hi all,
I had a trip with 2 guests last week to Renosterkop in Mpumalanga Province. My two guests being from Pretoria and Bronkies are kind of new to fishing from a boat and they have just invested in a flotation device and were very keen to learn the tricks about fishing from a boat.
I suggested to these guys that we head off to Renosterkop as this is a venue that offers a variety of species and the fishing has been exceptionally good of late.
I collected Willie and Johan at their place at 05h00 and we departed for Renosterkop - we had a pretty uneventful trip to the dam - LGF was alos gracious enough to grace us with his presence and showed up with "Da Ducky".
We met on the slipway where I quickly imparted some crucial information to Joahn about csting for barbel and the words "Distance is important but accuracy is final" were driven in.
Anyways to cut a long story short we were on the water in a flash and headed for the island. Here we were casting my homemade silicone Jobs for Barbel. About the 4 tree we came to the water erupted as the barbel exited the water in hot pursuit of the Silicone blob - unfortunately this catch was not to be. We moved to the shore and tried several more trees again we had explosive reaction eventually Johan was lucky enough to make contact and after a serious Tussel the fish was subdued and brought to the boat weighing in at a little over 5kgs - a fine catch in anyones books and a great firstime experince - me thinks I have two new converts to Barbel fishing on lure for the future
The barbel went off the bite and we set about trying to catch bass. I got bust up several times and it was not long before johan boated a Nice fish and broke the ice.
Willie took a little longer but showed the Young lads that size counts -catching the biggest bass for the day. It was super hot and we decided to retire to catching some Blue Kurper. I had brought Maroek and Earthworms for this purpose -we made a huge feeding spot and came back some 45mins later but all we mangaed were little 100mm jobs - I said to the two guys that I want to move into the reeds and get some artlure Kurper using earthworms and it was not long before we were catching Pannies (300mm) jobs. All too soon the day was over.
On the way back driving through the settlement surrounding renosterkop I overtook a car in what I thought was a 100km/h zone. When low and behold a policeman steps out and pulls me over 98km/h in a 60 Zone - EISH. Boss have you got fish? - I had kept 3 dinky bass so I said to him "I have three but it is not fair for you to take the fish and fine me" He says We take the fish and you don't worry about the fine"
So a 2.5k fine got squashed by letting them have 3 bass - moral of the story - keep you small bass for the cops
