I got these two penn reels in to service. They were indeed in need to some JJ TLC.
Have a look at the corrosion in process on the outsides as well as the inside. The OEM grease had hardened then breaks down then corrodes as often seen with wading.
All reels need to be serviced frequently especially with swimming. The white marks you see outside is actually corrosion and the acidic residue that eats away metals.This required a lot of work to clean, remove corrosion and acidic residue then corrosion treat and finally service.
The outside got the anti corrosion treatment also as you will note, this was then later wiped off to ensure that what you previously saw growing on the outside does not happen again. Look after your reels as everything costs money today.
NOTE to have them serviced regularly to prevent this type of occurrence especially if you wade or swim when fishing. Stripping, cleaning and servicing them is the only recourse please note this. Enjoy the read.
