Hi there,

I heard a rumour that the Red Steenbras is now off limits. Can someone please shed some light on this? possibly a link to an official site?

Thanks,
L

SANPARKS mentions a bag limit of 1 no smaller than 60cm. Don't know if this has changed of late though?

Not as yet, from what I know. Still 1pppd over 60cm, and closed from 1 oct every year, opens 1 dec.
they are possibly going to close them, but this wilkl put further pressure on Black steenbras which IMO is in more danger than Coppers.

I thought as much. I heard a rumour after I shot one on Friday. I felt very unsettled as a result. I thought I would get some clarification.
Thanks guys!
Cheers,

Thanks for your input mate.
I've never heard of a Black Steenbras.

Any chance of someone posting a pic of one?

Cheers,
L

The new 2011 fishing regulation brochure makes no mention of a closed season for Red Steenbras in the section where you would normally find it (along with Galjoen and Elf).

Haven't read it front to back yet but I have a feeling they have been protected from Jan 1 2011.

It seems that the link points to a link on sealine.com.
Thanks anyway.

Hi Ledge,

Black steenbras, black musselcraker or more commonly known as poenskop (poensie) is all the same fish, just different names. Hope this helps.

If you looking at targeting redsteenbras then Bettie's is the place. There is a bay where I saw them more then often and well worth every now and then for the pan.
