recommended rod and reel

I'm letting go of a 12' Sensation Shad Pro blank with Fuji K guides that Enigma upgraded. It throws a country mile and like all of Sensation's blanks has a wonderful action and backbone... I simply have too much tackle so this is one of the rods that is going. Gimme a shout if you're interested. It pairs well with a 5-8k reel.

Look for a rod between 11 and 12vt length. The one Limpopoking suggested is a real nice option.
Otherwise look at the Assassin Range like the amia or cob special.
I would rather pay a bit more for a suitable reel, as the spinning is very hard on the reels and the cheaper options may only last a season or two.
Penn Clash 5000 or a gosa 5000 are not bad options. Stradic second hand may also be an good option.
Dont skimp on braid. get a good quality 15-25lb braid. thinner the better for distance.

Loomis and Franklin Archipelago STX HMG 11-12ft rod. Many good things have been said here regarding it if you do a search.
For a reel, you'll get away with a shimano Nasci in 5000 size on the cheaper end of the scale, although a Saragosa will be best. Perhaps you can upgrade the reel to the gosa at a later point when the budget allows

gotta agree with Reez, L&F archipelago is a beast of a rod, i own the 11ft and get 100m+ quite easily when casting a 3 oz sinker.
The rod you buy should suit your capabilities and build though. Go to one of your local tackle shops and feel the rods in your hand. there are a few good options on the market to suit your requirements, but you need to understand whether it'll suit your style of fishing also

5000 gosa going to be a great reel but cannot see you getting the gosa reel and rod in that budget. Look at a big Boss 5000 - 6000 size then you will be able to stay in that budget. The Big Boss reels punch way above their price. I got a 5000 big boss on my 11ft Daiwa Laguna and its now been about 3-4 years spinning with it in surf only. Its got dunked more times than I can remember I even swam after it in a gulley once. Ok to be fair I do always rinse it out after every session and every few months strip it down and lube it up again.
Also got a gosa 10 000 on the 11ft Assasin Kob Heavy but this is total overkill for elf to snoek range. Unless its a bomb of an elf but they a bit rarer.
