Re spraying a saltist

I Think i'm getting better at this, only my painting skills need work! this reel took me a hour from start to finish and i fitted the works! carbontex washers, abec 5 bearings, i replased the plastic bush with a bearing and of course a new power knob!

I did the sandblasting my self and painted with a canister, i'm thinking of buying a desent spray gun.

The dude could not believe his eyes when i gave him his reel back! all he was expecting was the upgrade with the new knob! i'm sure with a bit of practice i could respray these reels that they look like they are brandnew! just think every 2 years you send your reel to me and i send it back to you BRAND new!

Hi whaler

I am busy respraying a reel myself what type of paint do you use? I used a spray paint after sanding the reel down with 1200 grit sanding paper almost had a mirror immage on it. The only problem is that the paint chips off for nothing. Could it be that the surface is too smooth or is it the paint i was using? Should i rough up the surface before spraying again? Any help would be appreciated.

I sand blasted the reel first and that gives it a mat finish, the paint bonds to it very well! I used a chrome finish paint that is made for exterior use, time will tell how durable it is? i'm still on a lurning curve so watch this space...

please can u elaborate on the sandblasting..how did u manage to do this...is this the same equipment used when sandblasting is done on glass.

Whaler, what primer you using? Aluminium is a b#$@h and the paint normally starts bubbling after a while. You get an aluminium primer though. As for getting a spray gun, good idea, then you can use automotive paints and a clear PU clear coat. Will make it very durable.

Hi, I used a normal industrial sand blasting gun, just held the nozel quite a distanse from the casing and as soon as the paint was of i moved on, it took about 10min to do the whole reel
