I was privledged to join a good ol pal of mine whom I just met per chance at Roodekoppies some 3 years ago for an outing to RDW in Search of Bass. Anyways we got going from Pretoria at about 6 and arrived at RDW at about 7.
Vaal Bassmasters were having a inhouse comp there and there were already a whole herd of boats on the water judging by the amount of boats and trailers at the slip. Weather condtions were not good with a stiff cold breeze blowing and very ominous black clouds we launched with a bit of tripidation.
Tony had fished the previous weekends Bett and said we were to start on the lilly pads with jigs and topwaters. It did not take long for me to have a good blowout but I was unable to make contact. Tony was next also with a good blowout and a hookset that wrapped him up in the lillies (Fish came off). This went on all morning with sevceral blowups and no contact.
By about 11 am the wind was really picking up and we decided to move to a corner of the dam that looked a little less windy. On the way in I noticed a small inflateable with two guys tied up in the lillies (I thought that they would probably be cussing this big yellow rebel with a 225HP on our way in) Anyways we were there for maybe 10 mins when the big black clouds came rolling our way along with lightning etc. We decieded to pull out and maybe the storm would pass. Anyways on our way out of the corner I looked at the little inflateable now trying to make it against the wind back to their car. I saw wooden planks and I thought the boat and the character at the back of the boat looked very familiar - turns out it was LGF and the lightie. Asked them if they wanted a tow but they declined so we turned on the gas and were back at the slip in a heartbeat. Pulled the boat out and just as we had sorted the tackle so the rain started to come down. SO we sat in the warm car and waited the rain out. 30 mins it was over but the wind was still belting so we watched some of the boys from the club weighing in. Some had full bags but nothing great shakes.
Anyways after the weighin they packed up and left and as the last one departed LGF came along and we had a bit of a yarn - I sold him a pack of our Flukes and we were on our way. We started at the dam wall where Tony managed to pick up a couple of decent fish in spinnerbait. I missed one on a flukey and then we decided to head out into the dam. This is where the fun started. We managed to catch quite a few good Keepers ripping rattletraps through the grass, All in all we ended up with several good fish and a handfull of dinks.
It was a real privledge and honour to fish with "Team Rubba Wurm" off his rig - Shot Tony we must definately do it again.
As soon as the pic's get mailed to me I will post them.
