Purpose of Sealine

HI,

I have a question regarding the sealine forum, with no disrespect to the administrators and people involved in the starting of this forum.

my question is: What is the purpose of the forum?

Reason for this question is simple. Since i joined this forum i found that there were helpfull and friendly members but as of late found many unhelpful and discouraging people members who dont seem to want to help anybody who asks for advise on places or tips on baits or lures or just how to fish, thus the question.

Example: Last week i planned on trying out a dam close by (Ruimsig Dam). I asked around but more specifically i asked people who seemed to have fished there before about the dam if they had any advise for a neewbie in specimen carp fishing and instead of those people who fished there before giving the advise they just ignored me. Got a few a replys regarding the safety of the dam which was all negative.

This being said i still went and found the exact opposite of what was said about safety. There are no suspicous people walking around in fact there was a lady jogging on her own around the dam.

I think the conventional guys like me just can't give you tips on bait and ways to fish if you are fishing the specimen way as there is a huge difference. I hope the guys from the specimen side gave you more information. I am sure the fact that guys did not respond to your questions is just because there was nobody that could assist as I have always received feedback and assistance from the guys if I had questions.

What you are saying understandable but, when it comes to the "fact guys" these are guys who are online nearly all the time (i have checked) and there most recent updates regarding ruimsig in paticular dates back to like 1 - 2 weeks. I'm not saying they should give away their secrets or even the baits they use. Its more to do with them saying things like it is dangerous to fish there and seems like they trying to keep us away from fishing there.

It might just be that the regulars don't know or fish the dam and would be bullshitting you if they made comments

If you feel that someone can help you and that he might not be reading that post or might not be answering due to keeping info out of the public eye then use the Chat function to them when they are online or send them a PM

As for the purpose of sealine it's there to chat, share, learn and teach and just some internet fishing away from the water.

You should now after your experience of Ruimsig do a post on the Dam, it's layout, your experiences there and post a few pics so we can all be educated.

Where is Ruimsig by the way?

Hi Enigma,

I have done that, sent them pm's thinking it would be the best way to get a response, but nothing. With regards to the purpose you mentioned i agree fully with what you said hence the topic.

Ruimsig dam is located on the roodepoort area just past the clearwater mall behind the ruimsig stadium.

I only spent a couple hours there so cant provide much detail about the dam but i do know one thing for sure after chatting to a few people i met there and i know for sure there are big fish there. Seen some massive carp jumping all round the dam and lots of swirls. I also know there are nice sized bass there and blue and red kurper. Will try and go there another time and update again about the dam and the fishing. I also know tiger nuts worked, papgooi mielies and floaties. there are lots of crabs there as well. lost a couple of rigs due to crabs. Only caught one carp about 1.5 kg's but there is definitely big carp in the dam.

Hi Naruto

Yes it is a public dam and is open to all to fish there. We do try and stick to the catch and release but unfortunately the locals tend to keep them but the time i spent there i did not see any locals fishing instead they were selling earth worms to  whoever was fishing

I am honestly not sure as i have not spent a night over before as last week was my first time at the dam. I have heard reports on the forum of equipment getting stolen. But not sure. I do believe that there are quite a lot of people who spend the night over the weekend so it is quite full. According to one of the guys i spoke to who often catches bass there that it is safe.

Ruimsig is my favourite dam and I go there often. Big fish but people wants to keep it secret because of people taking the big ones home. The dam is not big and there cant be a population of large carp of more then 250 fish. So if weekenders takes 10 fish home every weekend it will not be long before there are no fish left.
I have fished there alone quite often during the day but when it gets dark with no other anglers around I pack up and leave, to close to the squatters. If you fish as a group no problem for night fishing.
Only lately do I see the small vlei kurpers. Only fish in the dam carp and bass and obvisiously lately the small kurper which the squatters love to catch.
Oppas vir Boetie maak vir baba bang. It is only to protect the spot and the fish.

A good place to start checking, and please remember traffic on the weekends is slow as the guys are fishing.

Raffiemo i see by your number of posts you are still new, so welcome to SEALINE. :welk1 when reading replies, please keep in mind that each person has their own opinion and experiences. and what one person likes/calls big fish/expects and thinks is safe, is what another person doesnt.

that being said. Ruimsig is a nice small water, with not many fish (fish population decreasing all the time due to hook and cook), its not safe as the path next to the dam leads into the location and is used by all the locals (early morning and afternoon being the busy times) druggies also like to frequent there late at night. i would not recomend staying over night unless in a group of atleast 4 people.

as for the theft, the reports you have read are true.
there are not many safe venues left, even closed sections of water (harties/vaal) are having crime problems. so be safe, fish in a group, stay alert, pack unused stuff away, set up perimeter alarms, dont drink to much, dont attract attention to yourself.

as for sealine it where people can chat, share, learn, teach. unfortunately there are some good people(who will share and help etc) and then there are the others(who talk bull, dont help etc) but thats life and sealine cannot control how someone is going to respond or what someone is going to say etc. the mods are there to keep the peace and keep the site clean and uphold the standards and rules. ::slr::
