Pongola bass

HI All,

Was fortunate to fish the tiger compo in Jozini over the weekend - went very well we were a mere 10g off the 15th prize.

We deciced to go down a day earlier to do some bass fishing in the area and also some bass fishing on Sunday after the compo.

On thursday we caught around 70 bass between 3 of us of a small little puddle.

Smallest was about 800g average being 1.5kg and the biggest 2kgs. The dams are exceptionally full and all the hens are on the nest in dense vegitation so we were playing games with the males in the open water.

Seems the bass have spawned some time back as there are shoals of baby fry all over the place.

Sunday we went to another puddle - awsome fishing there too on Surface lures and plastics once again seemed to be only male fish that showed any interest in feeding.

Biggest was caught by my better half on a Norman Lure.

Some photo's attached.

Yep the very same ones.

We saw one lil lady of +-4kgs up in the thick stuff water viz was about 5M crystal clear. But she was very close to a nest and had serious lockjaw.

Even the boys were not feeding so well. Had to really wind them up to get a take.

Really nice to see how fish react to the bait etc - one could watch them take it.

Yeah sight fishing is crazy, I think the only thing that top's that is a sudden explosion of the surface from an rather Large GF, busting a topwater especially when you're intending them to do that but not knowing exactly when the water will explode...... still need to bust one like that off the surface, but have been watching them react to lures and taking the lures and so forth on some occasions, like you say great stuff.

I was (still not all that well) a little ill the week prior to last and went out fishing on thursday 13th and well caught a couple of rats and a mouse or two, mainly rats, and this I did at a place I didn't even think had LGF's resident in the numbers that would make me consider it a good hunting ground for LGF. But nonetheless busted a couple in a very short space in time and it seems I have found a new "GO-TO" bait, will post pics later

Buffels on the weekend of the 15th saw us only landing two also on this recently accredited "Go-to" bait.....

It can be any type bud, it's well let me put it in the way I understand it, To me it's the lure that 1.) you have the most confidence with and 2.) the lure that gets you fish everytime you strap it to the end of your line, hence if you're not getting anything from any new or other normally used lures, you rig this go-to lure and you should be having something doing some aquatic fighting on the other end of your line real soon and consistantly so.....

Have posted a pic of that exact lure before, but it's only of late that I noticed that i works when nothing else wants to and it keeps on landing fish in most of the conditions and at several different grounds.  will post another pic with the LGF pics perhaps bby 2morrow.
