Pomene, Moz

Going back to Pomene in Sept. Was there last year in Aug. but fishing was poor due to big cold front which blew offshore and water temp dropped.
Was facinated with the huge lagoon and mangroves.
Going back with two boats, a 520 Supreme Cat and also taking a 4,2m Boston Whaler recently bult in Plett. by Manta Marine. It's a small center console shallow draft boat ideal for flyfishing and drop shot in the lagoon. I've used it a lot this past year in Eastern Cape rivers. Runs in a foot of water.
I see several members show Pomene as thier favourite fishing spot but not much info on Sealine.
We have the main offshore reefs marked on GPS but I'd really appreciate any info on fishing the lagoon with fly, dropshot, plugs etc..
All suggestions will be appreciated. Will give a full report and photos (with a bit of luck) when we get back.

Al I would recommend that you give Chad Alcock from Alcocks fishing tackle a call on 041 365 6868.  He know the area better than most.

Thanks Marshie, I know the Alcocks well and plan to see Chad but I thought the Vaalies might get there more often than we ECape guys do. Drove 5000km on the last trip so would like to make sure we have done our homework before we go again.
Once again, any and all advice will be appreciated.
Will do a full report on tackle, tips, etc when we return.

How did the trip go? I will am going there with a fishing ski next week and would love some info on nearish reefs I could fish of. You got any GPS points?

Hi Swazi, i know its abit late, however do you still need those way-points for Pomene, we fished there couple years ago, and have half a dozen or so very good points.

Thanks, will mail to you. We dont go to Pomene anymore, road is too bad, and its such a haul to get fresh supplies and fuel. Just not worth it.

We have been going to Vilanculous the last 3 years, and I must say we will never go anywhere else. Plenty lodges, boat can sit in the bay, very near the town, with all supplies and 'working' ATMS's.

The fishing is out of this world, and the Archipelago and Islands are in class of their own.

Sounds Awesome. We got a friend who lives up there and have been planning to visit for a while. Main problem for us is that we fish on Fishing skis and the decent fishing there is apparently quite far. Will need to organize a boat it seems.
Pity that they are about to get ponded by a cyclone up there. I hope that they are all ok and there is not going to be to much damage!!

Yea, luckily the cyclone passed already, did hit Pembane however further north. The bay is huge, and the shortest route to deep is about 7-8km, however there is also quite a challenging surf zone in that area, especialy challenging I would think for a ski with tides in and out.
