PENN SPINFISHER

Good evening All, this Penn Spinfisher 7500 long cast i did for Dirk Swart from Paarl. I think this is the best value for money, performance grinder reel for our type of fishing, solid alluminium frame and left side cover, most other grindermakes is graphite. Save the stella type reels. This reel has strong gears both main and pinion, the main shaft is solid, the bale arm is heavy gage, bearings are decent size and it comes with penns legendary HT100 carbon drags. A nice addition is the long cast spool which i really like. This is a very robust reel, it is also sealed very well against water ingress.

HI Old Salt

May I pose a question to you on these reels.

I have the spin fish 6500.
I have only used this reel once but caught nothing on it.
When I tightened the drag knob, the knob split on both sides to the top, I super glued it when I got home, then tried again to tighten the drag again and it split open. I have now epoxied it together, do you think this will hold? Should I try order a replacement? Or do you think there may be something else wrong with it? I wouldn't want this to fail on me at the water.

I hope you can help.

Good morning BigLes

One cannot say what went wrong without seeing even then it can be difficult.

Because the knob gives you your drag pressure due o a high pressure spring inside it, i would suggest replacing the part as the chance of it failing is quite high.

Jaques Ackhurst has been fishing a 6500 also for 2 plus years HARD and has been catching everything on it.

If you want to test tackle give it to this man he will put it through its paces, rough on tackle lol. If it doesnt break know then that it is good.

Thanks Jonathan_seal1_
