PENN INTERNATIONAL 70VSV

Here is a Penn International VSV70 I did, this and the 70 VSW are very much the same. If you into tuna fishing and cannot afford different reels for each class of line then the 70 series would make an excellent multi tasking reel.

I love these reels, the have large very robust stainless steel two speed main and pinion gears as well as a heavy duty main spoolshaft. The bearings are all large diameter and size so they can take a lot of punishment, the cage and side plates are solid metal and the spool very string also. The handle is solid and the knob torpedo shaped, well thought out design. The double carbonfibre HT100 drags and solid stainless drag plate just seal the deal for me.

This reel was serviced but the main shaft on the main gears i found was never removed to be greased and this can lead to seizure under extreme load. Look and the shaft on the main gears compare the before to afte cleaning and see the difference in the metal look. The drags were dry also, this i service with Cals grease specially designed for carbonfibre drags.

After a ultrasonic clean, service and corrosion treatment she was good as new again, lovely reels.

This is how clean each reel should be and not using paraffin nor benzine as they all leave oil residue, i have alwayx used water based cleaners as the final cleaner so you left with squeaky clean metal so oils and grease can stick and remain where it is needed most, on the metal

Drags are cleaner correctly then fibres lifted and assembled with Cals grease

On its way to health again treated with the correct grease for corrosion, friction and galling.
