Oyster Bay - Cape St Francis

Firstly - i think this forum is a great idea and full of useful knowledge, thanks to the administrators for making something like this possible.

Now for my question:

I've come back to SA for a holiday to see my family after being in the uk for the last 5 years, and want to take my dad fishing. I've book a week at the Oyster Bay lodge, and was wondering what the fishing is like on that side of the coast. Any advise of good places to try and general tips will be greatly appreciated. Any insights as to wind conditions (ie. If the SE blows try here etc) will be most helpful.

Nice place you are visiting friend. I have previously given some info on Oyster Bay and surrounding areas but in a nutshell it's good all year around. You are going to be fishing a very rocky area so I suggest that you check and check and check your tackle. You can expect to encounter giant blue elf on pillie and even plugs worked very fast on the surface. We are getting towards autumn now so also be on the look-out for galjoen, red bait is abundant along the coast and you are almost certain of hook-ups when fishing with this.Then offcourse also be ready for the dirt bastards aka white musclecrackers. They are still abundant at Oysters and you will almost certainly have hook-ups - Make sure you use only top quality hooks or you are going to have to post to us about the big one thet bent open your hooks. Here I suggest a round hook Kendal of around 8/0 class. I also believe Oyster Bay is one of the best places on our coastline to catch truelly huge zebra aka Wildeperd. I have personally landed two on consequtive casts both weighing in just under 5kg's !!!! They are AWESOME fighters on light tackle and coupled with those you will also land a good amount of really big blacktail too. Cob can be found on the incomming tide towards early evening and later at night but make sure to check the conditions before you venture out as conditions can change quickly and get very nasty to say the least. Also you will find the locals very friendly and make sure to ask as many questions as you can - They will be eager to provide you with day to day updates as to where to find fish.
