Hi guys

Has anyone ordered tackle from overseas from a site like tackle direct. If so, is your credit card number safe ?

Are there any other costs involved? (customs ,duties ) for example a reel that is $400

Do you always recieve your goods?

How long does the good take to arrive ?, .

Thanks

I have never ordered tackle but I have other sports equipment. I ordered about R10k worth of cycling equipment from the UK. As long as the item you buy is not liable to import duties (correct me if I am wrong, but fishing tackle should not be liable) you should just pay the VAT in SA.

So if the reel costs $400 and shipping $200 you should pay about R4515.20. Thats $600 at the current exchange rate of R6.89 and 14% of the $400.

I have never had a parcel go missing but I have heard of large packages being held up at customs, at which stage you might need to appoint a clearing agent and then you can add a few Rands to the price. As a rule of thumb try and keep your order bellow R5k, it help it stay out of the random inspectors clasps.

I used a random figure for the shipping, but I think it might be realistic. To try and cut this down try and do a group order with a few mates then share the shipping costs.

Also remember that if you are ordering an item you can easily get for a local tackle shop you are killing an industry. Support your local tackle shops rather, you will be happy you did when your R5k reel does a belly up.

String - Grommet has most of it all pretty dead on...

VAT is paybale on all fishing goods... bear in mind SA is one of the most expensive, and slowest places in the world to ship to... standard USPS 5 - 7 days shipping will take at least 3 weeks to get here...

Be sure you get a tracking number, and talk to the store about shipping options.
Tackle direct are a great company, I've dealt with Johnny Vaughn the owner many times....

Just be sure to do your sums before ordering so you don't get burnt....
Or better yet, support your local stores if they can give you a good deal...

Hi,

I have done some ordering via Cabelas and with surface shipping it took almost two months to arrive. I had to pay customs as well as shipping. In my experience with the current exchange rate reels tend to end up costing about the same price sourced locally.
