old mercury

Hi guys, I recently bought a boat with a very old mercury 150 thunderbolt inline 6 motor (late 70s to mid 80s)
I had it tested and there seems to be some major problems with compression and spark. I have phoned around a bit and the answer I keep getting is to drive it to the rubbish dump. Is it really the case that no one wants to work or can’t work on these old motors anymore and that parts are impossible to get or make? Is there anybody that can give me some advice on this?

They are cool looking motors and there are guys in the states that spend a lot of money restoring them for old boats to stay period correct.
I would recommend you drive it to the dump.
