Now that I am sorted with hooks as per my K-Karp thread, I must tackle another problem I have been getting.
I buy these alarms/bite indicators you get at Midas etc for R85-R99.00
They work just fine, when they do....
They all misbehave, like working only once in 3 bites, or so.
I do want to buy more expensive alarms, but I do not want them because they have more buttons and 100 different tones lol.
I want to buy them for being of higher quality, even if they sport only a on/off button.

Which do you recommend and where can I get some?
I just need two for now as I never use more than two rods at a time.

There is a whole bunch of alarms out there to go and choose from and it all depends what you are prepared to spend. People say that buying cheap is buying expensive and that is very true in some respects... I have used cheap sensation alarms and used them for 3 years through thunderstorms etc. and later handed them over to my brother who is still fishing with them one year later...never missed a beat, never missed a fish...
That's 4 years now on a R100 alarm!
Would I go back to that R100 alarm one year later...No I wont as I like the bling! ;)

I got one, a bit different than the one suggested.
Its a Sensation Pulse Carp 6.
It works with 2X AAA batteries. I like it more than constantly buying expensive 9V batteries. As I use rechargeable batteries, it will pay for itself with time.

But I have one question about this alarm. The batteries, not my rechargebles, but the alkalines that came with it went in very snugly. How will I get them out the day when they must be replaced? It there a specific way?

Edit. On the packaging it says 12V batteries but it comes with 2X 1.5V AAA's:shock:

Put some sellotape around the batteries before you stick them in, leave a piece sticking out and you can then easily pull them out again.

I bought Sensation alarms with a remote buzzer and this has been a revelation. The distance they work is up to about 100m, I can now sleep peacefully in my tent and the buzzer will go off next to me.

The buzzer is colour coded so I set my rods up the same as on the remote so when it goes off I know just by looking at it which rod needs attention.

Costs a bit more but well worth the extra expense.

I had the original cheapies from Sensation, they are excellent value for money and do last. I however got frustrated when sleeping and then having to get myself out the tent and by the time I get to my pod the light has gone off and if the swinger has not dropped I don't know which rod to pick up.

I don't think it will work with this alarm. See the link. The batteries are sealed via  screw on caps. The tape with make it difficult to close or will perish with time.

Well in that case I would try using a small flat screw driver and get hold of the lip of the battery on the positive side(this side normally has a plate and the negative side the spring-not sure what this alarm looks like inside) and then gently pry the one side out.
