newbi looking for advice

Hi I am looking to get a fishing ski I am a spear fisherman and want to use it to extend my range and cover a bit more ground than just shore diving and for a bit of angling when the viz is kak I am about 100kg and 1.85m tall I am looking for a second hand ski as I dont have much money to spend on this.

I have seen a few eric's tunnys available in my price range would these be suitable for a beginner in my weight /size range?

if so is there anyone out there with one that would be wiling to let me try one out before I buy?

Erics Tunny is a waste of time. Spend an extra 1 or maybe 2 thousand rand and buy a second hand erics kingy or stealth supalite or the old pinnacle. More hatch space on all these skis - so will fit your diving kit and if you decide to fish you will be happier to know you can handle the surf, the wind etc and over the long term you will be much much happier on these skis.

I know plenty spearo's who bought skis to improve their spearing, but now almost exclusively fish off their skis...

Stuckondarocks, what is the negitives of the Tunny. If I want it as a starting rig and get it for 4k then later upgrade. Need your input, I'm just starting out.

I started with a tunny in Cape Town! The only problem I had is when the wind pic up to turn your nose into the wind is a struggle! Other than that I had no problem! Stable ski.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh saying it is a waste of time. The tunny is a good ski and when it was made would have been the bees.

The only issue is that it really is now almost a dinosaur. Newer ski's fit the conditions much better. The tunny has a smaller hatch (if you are going spearing you will have quite a bit of gear and then you want to add fish that you catch). It's not as good in the wind and when you do want to fish off it, it's not going to be as quick as the others. The peddles if I remeber are not adjustable. The kingys, some stealths and the pinnacles are...

However, when I look around on the water I see plenty guys using a range of skis - tunnys, kingys, plastics, evos, supalites, pinnacles and popes. They all do the job.

However, I thinnk for R4,000 you could do better than a tunny. And think that you will want to start fishing more and when you do you will be thankful that you bought a ski which handles the wind and extra gear better.

However, if the tunny is in good condition, then I would say go for it. Get started and if you out grow it, then you will surely find a buyer for it.

I have just upgraded from a kingy to a pinnacle elite and will probably sell my kingy in a month or two.

I have found a couple of tunnys in the R2000-R3000 in good nick where all the others you mentiond seem to start in the 4-5000 range sounds like it will be fine to start can always upgrade later but for now the extra 2000 would make this a non starter
