New Rod n Reel setup

Hey-ya.

I am looking at getting myself another rod and reel. I have a 6ft M setup at the moment, and would like to get a 7ft MH.

I like the Clarus, and the Loomis and Franklin 7ft MH's. (felt them at fishing specialist). But i was wondering about the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special rods, from Rod and Marine. I read some good reviews on the rods and they are well priced..R400, I just dont know about ordering a rod from Pretoria and it getting here safely through the post, AND if im going to get charged extra because it is big and cumbersome.

As for the reels, i like the Bass Pro Shop Pro Qualifier, read amazing reviews on this puppy, so ja. And this will be fine in the post!

Can u guys suggest any other options and/or places to buy this stuff in Cape Town maybe. And has anyone ever ordered from Rod and Marine?

Tx

PEACE

you can def buy stuff from danie (rod and marine ) the stuff is priced well never had a problem. maybe you must try to use a courier services don't know about the cost ,but give danie a call. hope you enjoy your new toys!!

Bought The Kid the reel and the clarus rod three weeks ago, the reel is gr8 and real value for money, the rod and the reel combination however doesn't work for me, the rod seems to be a bit on the stiff side and doesn't cast like my PT's. but he seems extremely happy with his rig, so, I would deffs recommend the reel but perhaps with a diffirent rod.

hey, tx for the replies!

I think the reel is a winner for sure...now just need to decide on a rod. And i can use Danie at Rod and Marine...which sound GOOOD.

The bass pro shop 1 looks good (IF its a one piece), i dont want a 2piece.

The clarus is nice and light weight, but is not nice with that reel apparently (LGF), but is is a cool rod normally. (RIAAN) :)

The loomis and franklin is nice too...bit heavier than the clarus though.

And i have no idea how the bass pro shop rod feels...

ANY other rods you guys can suggest...and a place to buy it too. ANY brand...i care nothing

I bought myself the Shimano Cumara 7,2ft MH with fast action tip (one piece), weighs only 87grams, is IM10 graphite certified, and is much better than the clarus or crucial.

I also own three Quantum PT Tour rods. A spinning 7.2ft MH, a now (thanks to my workers breaking off the tip and then some) 5.6ft :censSUPER HEAVY baitcaster and a 7.2ft MH baitcaster which is my fav Quantum rod, however, they are almost impossible to get in SA, import will be your only option, or wait until Bassworld in Centurion gets their stock in (which might be next year only)

I have fished the Cumara extensively now and the PT Tour both MH, and they work very well with my Energy's, but it's not to say they'll match up with the BPS, so I'll stick that reel on these two rods and give you some feedback.

The BPS rods also seem a bit on the stiff side, but this is the thing. You actually need to pop into a store with the reel stocked with line, rig it to a rod, cast with it with a smallish weight and then try another rod until you find the perfect combination.

You deffs will need to get a M/H with a Fast action Tip (one piece of course) in the 7ft range a 7,2ft will be better, now to find the right rod for that reel...... hmmmmmmm

Thanx LGF, u a legend for all the effort u putting in here!!

Yip, wish i had more option in my fishing store here, so i could mess around with the options...but i dont really know many places here. and i WONT shop at one of the options.

That Shimano Cumara look amazing, but my bank account doesn't...would be nice though!

Tx again

BTW, it is a MH, so i do want it to be quite stiff..
Bud you can always go for a medium rod as well, the only reason for the MH is budget constraints which if you had to buy just one rod then a MH is the best allround rod, I have a medium rod somewhere in between these and must say that I fished with that rod only for a long time, lately i seem to grab the MH everytime rather than the Med......

This was (still is) a very good post, especially the part where you need to buy the way you fish and get a technique mastered before you go buy a specialised rig. I'm still in the process of getting there (a special rig for a specific facet).  Anyhows, BassmasterNonPro has to find a good allround rod to suit the BPS pro Qualifier reel and it needs to be balanced to near perfection.

I bought the Shimano Cumara Rod, 7.2ft M/H fast Action, IM10 graphite, weighing 87 grams, an Exceptional Rod, now here's the problem, to have it balanced perfectly i need to strap the Daiwa Steez baitcaster to it, but at R5000 it's not achievable with my budget, so I'm sitting with a very heavy reel on a very light rod currently, and it's not close to the balance it could have, anyhows it's still ok for now, cause I don't have another rod with these capabilities and have to fish it this way, for now.

Thinking of taking the rod to a tacklestore and fit some reels to it to get as close to the balance of the Steez as possible, yet still have a reel that I'm happy with, and I've been fishing my Quantum Energy PT's now for over two years, so it's not gonna be all that easy to find the right balance of rod and reel and still be happy with the reel too.........
