My trip to bass lake

OK so i managed to sneak off for a few hours last week thursday, On condition that i have the nightshift(New dad and all) So me and a buddy hop off to Bass lake. Now i have been going on about wanting to visit this place ever since i read about it here(Thanks JohanVC and LGF) we get there at about 2. and get rods out. Now i have NEVER caught a bass before and my buddy has caught on the klip with the horney toad which works like a Bomb there.

from 2 to 4:30 we have NOTHING not a bite there were some lunkers swimming about but nothing could entice them we tried everything. Luckily for me i met another guy who told me to put something natural on let it sink to the bottom and retrive SLOWLY, so i whack on a baby brushog in a watermelon colour and on my 1st cast BHAM a fish, on my second another, on my third cast the fish broke me line( considering i was fishing double x 7lb line which i Will be changing soon), 4th and 5th more fish but by then it was time to leave. If it was not for that oke i would have THrown away all the bass equipment(very little btw). Now i need to buy a better rod and better line and more equipment. I would estimate that my best fish was about 750G - 900G, The issue that we had was that the fish were putting the lure right down there gut and it was difficult to get it out without a long nose which will be in my box the next time i go. Hope fully will be making another trip there soon.

Hi Ziyaadb,

Yes Bass Lake is a adventure. We just wish the big ones would be a little bit more interested. Did you catch from the side or using a float tube? On what area did you fish from? I need to get there one or other time again. It is nice and peacefull.

Nice post and well done.... Awesome feeling when you see the water boil

And So the Bass Lake Posse Grows, glad to see you're hooked now......

Yeah, I am an donkey's behind for not placing a post on how to get them over there, so here goes to all that intend on going there;

Like Ziyaadb mentioned, rig something natural like a brush hog, senko etc on try a carolina and texas rig they seem to work best, colours we found working great is the watermelons the seed the red, candy etc. now all you do is cast it as far as you can, pull the line out and feed it thill it stops sinking, take up the slack, lift your rod-tip about 6-8 cm's and repeat and you'll have a fish per cast guaranteed realy.

If it feels smallish don't speed-land the poor bugger for two reasons, commong up from the depth of about 22m's in 10 seconds makes their buoyancy sacks overinflate due to the dramatic pressure difference and they might not make it, secondly it calls te montas that seemingly doesn't wanna chow anything your throw at them to come and have a feast and sooner rather than later your 300g fish will gain a kg per 5m's vertical so that at the end you'll have the opportunity to get whacked hard twice on one cast and have a landing fish of well over the 2kg's range.....
