At last the photo's of My first and only yellwtail for the season have arrived so I can post now.
After spinning from the railway line at Lower North Battery since September 2008 I finally got two yellowtail yesterday early morning - just after dawn - not at the Battery but right in front of my house in Glencairn. I woke early and saw comorants diving right on the edge of the weed probably 50m from the rocks.
In desperation I pulled on my diving suit and and went down with my old Sea Hornet spear gun to spear them. I got both of them between the rocks, just south of Dixie's Restaurant where the helicopter lands when they service the lighthouse, and the bouy where the yachts turn.
3,9 KG and 4.3 KG
Didn't even have a camera and had to use my old Samsung E250 cellphone. I couldn't get the download to the PC to work and eventually MMS'd them.
Was followed by a five foot Raggie but with the fish in my tube net she didn't get them. She did worry me quite a bit as I had disobeyed the golden rule of diving and was on my own so she probably helped by giving me a turbo boost.
The adrenalin was certainly pumping. It seems like I will have to give up the fishing rod and go back to diving again.
