my 1st Sailfish

Jet ski fishing at Sodwana Bay..& caught my 1st sailfish.. took about 25min to pull him in..awwwsum fish, brilliant colour & an amazing aerial display. Respect! next one will definitely be released :).........was about a month ago,but felt like sharing :) *biiig smile

thanks jason..much appreciated...i was using a Elbe Hurricane 15-25kg + Saltist 50 with 30lb Giant Abrasion..with a RED/WHITE 20feet Rapala X-Rap...LOL, was least xpecting a sailfish..

my 2cents..i feel the Elbe Hurricane at 7foot6 is abit too long, was the 1st rod i bought..didnt know better..i prefer a 6foot6

would it be possible to take a photo of where you mounted your camera (assuming Go Pro) for this footage? it was a good angel.

thanks Matthewswanson.. yes, it is a GoPro..my ski is gone in for a keel strip..so cant take a pic right now..but its quite simple..i mounted an aluminium pole about 1.3m from the base of the cage & i used the gopro pole mount 20cm from the top..take a couple of pics with the camera mounted here to get the angel rite..and make sure its tight..in this vid, while launching the cam moved, if it didnt, would hav had a better angel.

iv seen sum guys mount it on the side mirror housing, head strap ..ect..any one willing to share their best places to mount their GoPro on a jetski??

Zahir,

I find that 5'6 or 6' to be the best length. It gives you enough pulling power and the ability to move the fish around the ski

my sentiments exactly..i have a Travella 6'6 with a penn grinder & braid, can feel the power in that rod, need to hook into a proper fish to test it!! but 1st im trying to find the perfect braid to mono knot for my leader...Bemini to Yucatan Knot??*%#! anyone know better?

Try the 'slim beauty knot'!It works well for everything!

thanks ancient mariner ... goin to google that knot.. i posted on "off the chart fishing adventure's" wall on facebook & they say "Albright"... i guess knowing a few & perfecting them & finding the one that works for you.. i normally use a uni knot, doubling the braid & making more turns..it parted once, thats why it got me looking.....

I have tried most of the more common knots and the slim beauty is really easy and can be used to join line to leader,braid to line/leader.

As you will see when you google it,it is a really neat and streamlined knot.Try fishingknots.com there is a videoclip which makes it as clear as daylight!

It is also really strong!Since discovering this knot,biminis,albrights etc etc can be placed in archives!I believe in mastering a few good knots and stick with them!

There are way too many complex knots out there,enough to bamboozle the poor fisherman before he has even begun fishing!

Try it out and tell me what you think?

ancient mariner..iv tied it, not masted it..but tied it, Thanks for sharing..need to test it out properly.... however, the Albright just looks so much neater with a thicker leader..id like to test both out, pulling it on a scale or weight maybe..any ideas? to test it..instead of a BUS kingy!! lol

Hey Zahir,

Look,the albright works very well and is a strong and semi-versatile knot in my honest opinion.I used to use it extensively until discovering the slim beauty,which is now my knot of choice.

I find it easy to tie on the water and have never experienced knot failure which I could identify.

I hope you manage to master it!

Hey Zahir.
How about that photo of your camaraderie boom,please.
Was at the boat show the past weekend,asked some advice on how to secure the go pro,but still no luck with such a nice angle as yours.

@GBRITS01.. sorry for the delay Bud..as promised, nuthing fancy..Aluminim Pole mounted to the Cage with a bolt and wing nut..& i use the GoPro Handle bar mount
