Morning All,

Anyone in the above mentioned areas that can give me feedback as to what's happening on the R&S angling? What species are on the bite, and what's the faviourate baits currently.

PS. Not to be rude, but I don't need to know what happend a month ago I need to know what's happening now.

Heard a guy was stripped off the front of Pumula rocks last week...he reckons a big Kingie...he was using live shad. No fish there as at today, not even shad.
There are quite a few small,but size, shad around...maybe slide a livie into the deeper waters.
Hope you all dont mind me mentioning the shad all the time, but i usually follow them for the game fish.

I'm due to spend a week in Port St. Johns at the end of the month. Due You have any tips? What to expect, where the hotspots are etc?
Any info would be appreciated.

Redo, I will be there for a week during 2nd week in july.A group of us go there annually. For garrick,shark try below the Lighthouse at 1st beach Also kob at skivingtons at 1st beach , tho mainly at night to dawn , local subsistence fisherman all fish with rapalas and are loath to allow any bait fishing. Getting livies are a problem (not many shad around )so we usually get karos,blacktail & pinkies off the rocks at 2nd beach ,at the river mouth.Also worth a try is poenskop ,tho i heard last year that it was now part of a marine reserve . The river itself is worth a bash for kob , grunter mainly at night (sards,prawn). When fishing 1st beach ,never park your vehicle unguarded.Theft is a big problem.For an experience of a lifetime , try Brazen Head about an hour from PSJ off the Umtata road.Shad is normally thick this time of year , so plenty livies , for garrick, shark.The community survives a lot on fisherman , so they offer secure parking ,porters to carry your stuff down a moerse decline as well as gielies. We normally overnight in the cave ,its great fun.

Howdy redo

Port st johns can be such a hot venue but you know the story with fishing.hey

You have GOT to go to the local angling shop situated on the north side of the river about 5 kms up the dirt road....Their bait is usually plenty and fresh and i have found their advice great...They will definitely be able to tell you what is happening.. They are also the manufacturer of KP Reels...very interesting process.

As at yesterday there were plenty of sards around so take a good spooning rod and a couple of jig and drop rigs.  dont forget a heavy duty rig for sliding .

All live bait works well if the garrick (leeries for u guys)  Take an extra long gaff which is definitely necessary on this section of coast.   Enjoy.
