I have finally received my Johnson's so I can officially start the rebuilds on the Boat and motors, I've made peace that the boat will only be ready by December this year.

I just have a silly question to ask the mounting holes in the transom at the moment are no where near the Transom bracket from the 60hp motors.

but and this is my question can I simply mount on the top 4 holes as the free board on the inside of the transom is very low and it will never be able to accommodate the slot in the bottom of the transom bracket.

What is the industry standard in such a case?

Might be advisable to post a pic indicating which holes you can use and which holes will present a problem.

Hi Skeltonsc,

if I understand you correctly you’re asking if you can Bolt on the motors only using the top section of the motor bracket.

In most cases the lower section of the bracket can be located below the deck level on the inside.

You can either Bolt your motors in using the top section where there can be up to 4 holes to put your Bolt, Bolt it in using the top and the bottom holes IE furthest apart from each other.

The second option is bolting it in using both the top and the bottom section, but on the bottom side where you can get below deck with your spanner you can use heavy duty 12mm stainless coach screws.

Some people don’t agree with the second option including me but in some cases it has to be done.

I want to line every thing up correctly drill the holes then I can start stripping and painting.
