Ok so I went and bought myself a float tube and went to test it at a local dam on sunday.
Must say I should have gotten myself one ages ago.
Caught these little guys in about 10 mins caught 12 in total biggest being 900g (not in photo)
They just loved a no4 black and red mepps spinner.
Now I can’t wait for the summer.

Are you new to bass fishing? Well done. But I seriously hope you let those fish go. It is vital that you practice catch and release.

Keep a fish every now and then no probs.

Don't look dead, he said he returned them.

If he kept and killed them he would be well within ordinance and bag limits and he would be way better than 90% of the weekend warriors who are decimating the bass populations in Harties, Rust de Winter and Renosterkop, where some guys will keep 30 or 40 bass up to 5kg to eat and that during the spawn. Free for all in those dams in Aug and Sep, 7 days a week.

Why he would have kept all 6 for a photo could be debated as with a kicktube it would invariably mean a stringer was used subjecting the fish to excessive stress.

Better education and dealing with it in a responsible manner to keep members posting, involved and gain better understanding of their handling of fish.

I actually did not notice that he said he let them go. my appologies.

He could take 100 out and he would still be with in bag limits as there are none for bass.

Most bass fishermen will release all their fish. And its just better to encourage all to release fish as often as possible. Most if not all bass fishermen would consider it outrageous if you take a fish for the pot on every outing or even worse taking 2 fish from one outing you will be linched :).

License ordinance up here restrict anglers to 6 Bass with minimum length of 20cm and many keep bass to eat and many kill any bass caught and will target them in spawn to kill them as they perceive Bass to be a threat to their Kurper or Carp fishing.

Rather pic each fish per capture, store in livewell if need be and as with Carp etc not lay them out on Grass or sand which could result in fungal infections with slime layers scratched off etc.

I also would like to see the law on bag limit for any alien fish in s.a as I I know they can't stop any legal catches made by rod and killing it.

The new law at zandvlei is every alien fish caught must be taken out and killed.

yes you can eat bass.but the real question is should you eat bass?With EUS and other diseases in our waterways i wouldnt take a chance.
Good catch by the way and kudos if you returned them(you werent very clear about that)
float tubing is a great way to fish smaller bodies of water and you dont have to worry about getting your lure stuck in trees and the like when bank fishing
