For Tournament casting there is no choice but Custom as those rod types and blanks are not available off the shelf as rods on the shelf are fishing rod and Tournament Casting rods are only used for Tournament casting
There are different rods for casting and for fishing and then for fishing there are different rods for the different types of fishing and different budgets
For succesful bank angling I would recommend the use of
1. Matrix or Terminator type customs built by Johan Louwies or Super Cast as they are designed and built in RSA for RSA angling (Conventional Bank angling) Can load properly and cast the rigs we fish with a long way and then still play a fish
2. Blue Marlin G2 13' which are my own rods. Everyone who recently participated or read the thread for Rods to cast a long distance and has come to me to test cast the DC' Bazooka and the G2 has ended up taking the G2. Om te meet is om te weet"
3. Purglas 1666 13' which is almost the same as the G2 but a 1 piece and a bit heavier.
There are many good and great rods and a specific rod like the G2 gives you 5-10% more than another rod but can be 30% more expensive but 5-10% more is the difference between being in the pack or rising out above.
Last week an Mpumalanga angler after servicing his reels told me that he will keep to his rockets as he's happy with them and they fit his budget (good rod and fantastic value for money) bur ended 3rd in his zone next to Bennie Tessner (Multiple Protea) fishing with G2's and the problem was he had to use a P3 to get the distance bennie was getting with a M1.5 because he wasn't loading the Rocket the same and afterwards he tried the G2 and as he is an extremely competitive league angler with Aspirations of Provincial A side and then Protea Colours he is paying to get the 5-10% improved performance.
Remember in the beginning you make massive strides in improvement but then you hit the ceiling and you look for the 1-5% increase in performance to separate you from the crowd and take you to A team level.
Improving a 100m time from 15 sec to 11 sec is quick and easy, then taking it down to 10.5sec is done 0.05sec at a time
