Memorable takes, pick ups, hook ups, bust ups ...

Greetings again fellow fisherman. This site is just amazing [And addictive] :).

Lets hear your most memorable take, pick up, hook up, bust up etc.  Here are two of mine:

I was ground fishing at brighton beach one night when the crayfish were assaulting our baits, and try what we may, we could not hook and land them. We knew it was crayfish because we landed a few legs and tentacles. If we did get a hook up, we could not leave slack line, as the crayfish would then grip onto a rock or creep into a hole. So we reasoned, if we did get a hook up, not to give any slack when reelin in. So i had a pick up and I gently lifted the rod tip and then reeled  like crazy, motivated by the fact that I could feel this weight at the end of my line. I used the shore dump to good measure and was quite astonished to see a two kg grunter wash up on the beach. That fish must have got one big skrik and surrendered very meekly after the way I dealt with it. I felt quite sheepish later on as I did not give the fish a chance and would have played the fish had I known it was a grunter.

On another occasion, friends and I were fishing at Elysium. At about two a.m. one of the guys had become very philosophical and contemplative, after smoking the tree of knowledge, when his reel began to scream madly. He scrambled to his feet and grabbed his rod and disengaged the ratchet and decided to freespool the line to give the fish a chance to swallow the bait before setting the hook. We all sat up alert, watching the action and expecting a good lengthy battle. The next thing we see is the guy's rod is pulled  horizontal and he starts fighting with his rod whilst being dragged to the waters edge. Without thinking, we ran to him and grabbed him around the waist and around his legs and a third guy, who quickly realised what was happening, used his cigarette to burn the 30lb Maxima line. In the contemplative and philosophical state that our friend was in, he had forgotten to tie the drawstring of his tracksuit pants the last time he had relieved himself. The loose drawstring ends had somehow become entangled and was reeled onto the spool whilst it was on freespool mode. As the drawstring tightened on the reel, the rod butt was pulled into has groin :D, not funny if you are trying to keep your balance and prevent yourself from being gragged into the sea,  all at the same time. That my friends is my most memorable fishing trip ever. My philosophical friend most probably would have sent us a postcard from Madagascar or Mauritius had we not been there. Nowadays, we never fish alone and we always make sure our drawstrings are securely tied when fishing.

Hey Phish,

I heard of  'Caught with your pants down' but never 'caught with your drawstrings undone'

Good one.
