lowrance LVR 250 Radio problem!

Hi all

We have a Lowrance LVR 250 VHF radio installed on our Kosi Cat, we have a VHF antenna(killer deals) installed on the centre console.

We also have another LVR 250 + antenna in our house at coast to communicate.

Now the problem is that the range of these radios are really poor( as in 2km), and if in range, the quality of sound not good either.

We also have 2 icom handhelds and their range is much better(up to 7km) and clarity also better. (jetski radios)

1) The 2 LVR 250 can't communicate
2) The lvr's cant communicate to the icoms
3) Icom to icom is the best

Surely something major must be wrong, do you guys have any idea what the problem could be, we've tried everything it seems.

Thanx
Ian

Hi

Their can be a few problems...first you must make sure that the coax plug is solder probaly and then your antenna must resonate on that freq that means your SWR most be as low as possible and make sure your radio got the correct cables for power other wise the radio will be under powered...thickness of the power cable......it is best to use a Base antenna at home not really good to use a mobile antenna for a base...first check all this things hope it helps any other questions you welcome I am a Radio Ham....
Regards
Jess
