Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 problems.

Hi guys, hope someone can help me here. I bought the boat with the above fish finder, GPS. The problem is the unit reboots itself every now and then. It is soooo frustrating especially when you are going according to your previous route on the GPS. I have checked the fuse, I have checked the connectors at the back of the unit and all seems fine. Is this a common problem on them? What else can be wrong? At this stage I feel like fixing the problem with a big hammer.

I still have to check the power connections. How do you update software on the finder, do you perhaps know?

Nope, also have to do that.

Why don't we start a Ace Glider Fan page, the same as the Ace Craft guys?

You may want to try looking at this URL that provides the update and instructions on uploading the update.

It is a good idea but I don't know how to do it. I am busy trying to figure out how to do the software update. Will keep you posted.

Ok, I spoke to John from Fishtech. What a nice guy. He sorted me out in a jiffy. I have the software update on a SD card now, will install it tonight. He recons the rebooting of the unit is due to the software. I also purchased the Insite Planner from Lowrance. I am busy downloading it now. Now I can create my own waypoints on the PC and transfer it to the finder. I will have to play with it a bit and try to figure out how it works but I am sure I will sort it out.

It is one of the following:

1 - Check for updates.

2 - Check your battery is fully charged and in good condition. If the voltage drops it will "reboot". or shut off every now and again.

3 - Check all connections and check for corrosion on the plugs behind the unit.

4 - If it's none of the above, the power supply is faulty (had same problem). Will need to send in for repairs.

Hi, it seems as if the software upgrade did the trick with the rebooting problem. Now I have another isue, I bought the Insight Planner from Lowrance but I can not import the maps from my SD card to my laptop. It does not want to accept the .at5 files that is on the Navionics card. Can someone PLEASE help me.

Everything is sorted out. John from Fishtec helped me through everything. Thx for all your help John.

I can truly say that this guy is a genius when it comes to fish finders and although I did not spend a cent at Fishtec he helped me with all my fish finder problems. If I ever buy a finder again it will most definitely be from him.

The Insight Planner from Lowrance is not very user friendly but at least there is some features that would help a bit.
