Low down on drop shot

Hey guys,
Been living in SA for about 3 years after moving from the UK and exploring the fishing scene in this amazing country. I heard dropshot's big but i'm not to sure about the methods. All i know is that you use lures with a sinker but thats pretty much it. Do you leave it in the water like bait or do you retrieve it like a lure? any other info?

you have to retrieve it like a lure... giving it slow jerk/retrieves slow bump off the the bottom retrieve, fast in the top water column, even skipping on the surface...

various action for different fish.

you can even hang in from a boat as the swell moves though it creates an action, works for me off the kayak.
