Hi Guys,

Does anyone know the name of the lodge featured in the Berkley DVD, the one owned by Earl & Linda Strydom?

Thanks

Called Hell's Gate Lodge, have a look at http://www.bigfishtravel.co.za. It is hell of an expensive! USD 300 per night (which includes food if memory serves).

Rather go to Anton's camp, Nhonguane Lodge (used to be called Ponta Torres lodge) where you can get a pretty posh 8 sleeper, with your own pool, for R2,500 per night. It has 2 enquite doubles and one 4 sleepr bunk bed with ensuite etc. It is more into the bay (Earl's camp is on hell's gate) and self catering. http://www.nhonguane.co.za/

Alternative is to go to Carlos' camp, between the two, very basic accomodation but he now charges R300 pppn, and last I heard he was not taking any "new" guests.

PM me if you want more info on the area, we love it and will be up there again from the 4th of July.

Here is a google earth snapshot showing the locations of the three lodges at Hell's Gate (ignore the blue markers, look at the yellow pins):

We usually stay at Anton's place. The houses are fully equipped. One can't call this roughing it. Great place. He has a tented camp as well. Very good value for money. Always good to have enough fridge and freezer space for the beer and the bait.

The tides in the bay can cause a bit of a problem, the water is very shallow at low tide and one must keep the bigger boats in the channel to prevent you from getting stuck on the banks. But there are more than enough locals to help with that.

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated!

Hells Gate is $300 USD per person per night..... Thats a little steep for my blood as the boat charters are over and above that.... I could do 8 days on a yacht in Seychelles for less than that...... Pity as I would really have loved the opportunity to fish with Earl as I think he is probably one of the top skipper/operators on that coast line, and someone who I think you could learn an immense amount from, and a great guy to boot....

Thanks again, back to the drawing board! :)
