Langebaan - the other side

Has anyone ever fished on the other side of the lagoon. On the other side I mean across the lagoon that I have no idea how to get to without a boat.

I suspect you have to go via Flamingo Bay entrance and then you land up on that side. Any good fishing that side and is it worth the antrance fee?

If the fishing is good I think it would be worth to get away from the crowded shores on Langebaan side fo the lagoon. Damn it gets quite crowded there during summer. Sure the sea belongs to everyone, but what about personal space. I hate fishing between ten guys, with lines running across each other. Just unpleasant and chances are greater to lose a nice fish this way.

I also thought of that the beginning of last year but that is a private road on the other side of the mountain and you must check if the channel passes close enough to cast into , which at some spots it does

Hi Dalkil,

I have launched my ski a few times from the other side of the Baan (Kraalbaai)and the fishing at the 2nd channel is pretty good there. But from the shore it is about 1km to this channel so i dont think it would be much use from there. It is shallow all the way up to the channel with plenty prawn and lots of mullet about. But a little further down past the 3 houses that are there, the shoreline moves closer in to this channel by the red bait reef. As Razeen says i think this is a private rd, but you could always park at Kraalbaai and then walk down. The entance fee is only R15 into the park.

Yep, maybe we will make an effort to get there.

My brother in law is part of the tourist guide okes that can go in there, so maybe we just tag along as tourist who happen to have brought along their rods :D

I checked on google earth and there seems to be a couple of nice channels running that side. One nice area is where is old whaling station use to be at the mouth. Dark blue water very close to the shore, but unfortunately I think they converted this to and army area, thus off limits.

Kraalbaai only accessible for residents, so one cannot get to the channel.

The gate on the main gravel road past Kraalbaai is blocked by a gate leading to the Postberg Private Nature Reserve. (rumours of fatcat goverment officials abound...).  This reserve is only open to the public during the West Coast flower season.  Beyond Postberg is  the Donkergat Military Area, which is occupied by the Special Forces. Entrance only on official bussiness, fishing unfortunately not being classified as such!

Tsaarsbank (seaward side) looks good but a sign says "No Fishing"!.

You can access the other side via the road to Flamingo Bay , Tried fishing there once but I had to wade in 150 meters to the channel , caught a few stumps but nothing like the Baan , PS - when summer comes and the Baan is too crowded for u try Saldanha. I fished mostly Saldanha nowadays and the results are just as good if not better. I caught my personall best at Saldanha in Jan , all in all 18 stumps which 12 was blou kopper. That day 3 of us caught 46 stumps. (off cource we only kept 30 as per bag limit) , We actually gave away a few and threw back all the small to medium size ones.

i went across there in a rubber dinghy last year and dropped a few of us off only to be approached by the "parkies" in a huuuuuge boat and told to leave as it was private property and we were not allowed to fish from there, all we saw on the way in were a whole lot of sandies and other flat fish anyways!!!

oh jinne,and those law enforcement okes in Langebaan are lank strict.
